We had a stray who moved in with us. When our youngest was born, the other two cats acted as if she were some kind of cat plague, but the stray adopted her. He slept in her crib every night, and didn't mind if she ran over him with her walker. And yes, I know the old wives' tale about a cat taking a baby's breath away.
I was once desperate and put a cat in the bed with the baby just to calm her down, and they slept together peacefully, and then nightly for months afterwards. Maybe that's why Princess grew up to be a cat lady.
