Tattooing in Slow Motion

The series Smarter Every Day visits a tattoo parlor to find how it’s done. We get an explanation of how two kinds of tattoo machines work, and then see a closeup of the process in slow motion. Our host Destin even gets a taste of the process, without ink, just to see what it feels like. This is pretty interesting, but I still don’t think I’ll ever get one. (via Digg)

  1. Interesting to see the slo-mo! I've got 2 tattoos. The pain was pretty minor. I wouldn't even call it "pain" -- "discomfort" is more accurate, at best.

  2. 'Smarter every day'.

Maybe, but I reckon getting a tattoo is like entering a contract to wear the same clothes and hair style for the rest of your life ... and remember, the vast majority of tattooed people get theirs done around age 18.

Imagine being stuck for the rest of your life with, in my case, massive bell bottom jeans, bright orange tee shirt, hand painted 4 inch high (in those days) platform shoes, and a dirty blond afro hairstyle ... (I'd look pretty cool at a 70s themed party)

Remember, kids, fashions change, class is forever.

    Or, class, not ass.

  3. I have no tattoos.  I have scars and stitches instead.

They last just as long, and there's usually a much more interesting story behind them.
