John Oliver tells it like it is regarding nuclear weapons. I remember when we used to think about them every day. So many of my generation grew up just assuming that we would all die from a nuclear bomb eventually. I know I did.
Many of us still remember the grade school drills in which we practiced hiding under our desks in the event of nuclear war. I'm sure that would have helped.
A corollary to this idiocy is that the Pentagon not only wants to reduce nuclear arms, but doesn't want certain new bombers, etc. But Congress keeps voting for this stuff that the military doesn't even want.
