Interesting. I always thought tubes ran on much higher voltages.
It looks like these old portable tube radios had an 'A' battery and a 'B' battery. The 'B' battery was for the tube anode plate and was 90v. They apparently used to sell small 90v batteries just for these radios.https://www.dos4ever.com/battery/batteries.jpg
