Abraham Lincoln delivered what is now known as the
Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on November 19, 1863. The 150th anniversary of the event is next week.
Filmmaker Ken Burns brings the address to you in a way you've never heard it before, recited by politicians and celebrities you know. Or possibly you've never actually heard the short but powerful speech recited aloud. Most American students had to memorize it as children, but it is only later in life that we understand the meaning of the "last full measure of devotion."
