Vegetarian Specials

The word "vegetarian" apparently means something different to the person who designed this menu. At first it looks as if they think chicken is not real meat, but then you see pork and steak. Maybe it means "has vegetables in it"? Maybe not, as the first offering doesn't mention vegetables at all. Go figure! (via Arbroath)

  1. The comments on Arbroath may be correct -- some Chinese restaurants, especially ones near Buddhist temples, offer a second vegetarian menu made of soy-based "meat".

The dishes are actually quite good, and the tofu-meats are textured similarly to the meat they are replacing.

  2. You should see their Vegan menu. It has the same items but the prices are 50% higher.

  3. 20 years ago I stayed at the Fownes hotel in Worcester, England. In the restaurant I was delighted when I came to a full page of items on their "vegetarian" menu. Upon review, not a single one was vegetarian. Chicken and fish dishes, mostly. One cheese platter, maybe veg but not vegan. It was quite funny. A decent hotel by European standards, though not up to U.S. Holiday Inns, of course.
