This was before Kool-Ade Man ever thought about busting through walls! I would suggest adding the sugar before the ice. In fact, don't put ice in it until you serve it. And I always put in extra water, because I didn't want my kids to think all drinks should be that sweet.
Quarts, huh ? Not the rocks though, but quarters of a gallon ! Typical 'harder than it needs to be' imperial measurement style ! Two quarts ! Half a gallon would be more simple. Surprised it wasn't called four eigths.

Almost decided to work out 1/4 an American gallon into standard gallons and then into litres ... almost.
Instead of more water wouldn't less sugar be just as effective?
