Sweet Child o' Mine
If you just listened to this, you'd be impressed, but seeing how it's done is even more impressive. Musician Johnatha Bastos https://www.instagram.com/jbastosoficial/ was born with no hands and very short arms. He plays guitar with his feet and piano with his stumps, just not at the same time. Casually Explained: First Date Mistakes
This explanation of what not to do on a first date is woefully inadequate, but hey, it's supposed to be a humorous overview from a guy who doesn't date much. The opposite sex could tell you days worth of stories involving men who made the most outlandish screwups on a first date. Like they say, you gotta kiss a lot of frogs... (via Digg)

How The Simpsons Keeps Predicting The Future
How many times has something happened that made national news, and someone said "Simpsons did it!" immediately? It's uncanny how The Simpsons made so many gags that ended up happening in the real world years later. Were the writers so in tune with trends that they could predict the future? Is it all coincidence? Is this phenomenon an illusion of our perception? Or are they time travelers? Maybe our world is turning into a sitcom! Buzzfeed Unsolved goes through these theories, and then takes a look at what's really happening. (via Digg)
Spot's On It

Shmorby's Guide To The Internet
Shmorby attempts to introduce newbies (meaning children) to the internet. While he wants to paint the web as a fun, useful place, alas, the real internet keeps butting in. Oh yeah, and don't beat yourself up over missing "the internet mascot everyone knows and loves," because the only people who knew Schmorby before last fall were his creators. (via Metafilter)

Audio Illusion Can Sound Like Anything
What is this crowd chanting? TikTok member Kegan Stiles gives us nine options; which do you hear? What's really weird is that you can read down the list while listening to the audio, and it sounds like every one of them... except there are nine options, and only eight lines to the chant. Once you've decided what you are hearing, you can go to the original video to find out what they are really saying. There is a parental warning for explicit lyrics on that one, although I don't understand why. (via Boing Boing)

Lawsuits That Actually Weren't as Frivolous as Reported
When news outlets try to distill a complex story into a short blurb or a 30-second news bite, the details often get distorted. It doesn't help
that so many people only read the headlines. The 1994 lawsuit against
McDonald's over hot coffee became the ultimate example of a frivolous
lawsuit, but when you dig into the details, it is revealed to have been
anything but frivolous. LegalEagle explains what really happened. The
McDonald's case takes only the first six minutes; afterward there are
other cases of "frivolous" lawsuits that were more substantial than they
appeared at first glance. (via Digg)

Local Celebrity
Pat Stansik achieved some YouTube notoriety and became that all-too-curious phenomena known as a local celebrity. I had to laugh because I know all about this from my radio days. For years, in various towns, I found that if you meet ten people in a day, eight will have never heard of you, one has, but is not overly impressed, and one will act as if you are a movie star. It's always best to keep your ego in check. (via Tastefully Offensive)

Hidden Patterns Inside Tropical Fruit
Kevin Parry has entertained us with all kinds of stop-motions videos. In a followup to his fruits and vegetables video, he zooms into the inner structures of tropical fruits, some you may not be familiar with (there's a list in the top comment here). But the best part is after the fruits, where we get to see how it's done. And that's where it becomes clear why Parry didn't treat the coconut the same way as the other fruits. (via Kottke )

The new movie F9 is in theaters now. It's a simple name for the ninth film in a series centered
around a set of characters driving cars very fast. That's nine movies,
and a few spinoffs. These characters -and their plots- have come a long
way from that first film in 2001, The Fast and the Furious, which Screen Junkies is just now getting around to making an Honest Trailer for.

The Partition of India
Here's another bit of history you probably didn't learn in an American school because 1. the US had nothing to do with it, 2. anything more recent than 1492 didn't make it into your World History class, and 3. it was all a teacher could do to squeeze in World War II before the end of the school year. But what happened in India in the 20th century is important globally.

Without using words, Awkward Spaceship recreates a conversation that happens every evening somewhere. The Undying Hydra
The tiny animal known as the hydra is the closest thing we've seen to an immortal being. Put it in a blender and separate all its cells? It will just reform itself! The secret is stem cells, which the hydra has plenty of. (via Aeon)
