How Do You Use A Jar of Peanut Butter?

BesidesPDX posted this picture of a peanut butter jar at reddit and said, "I know I'm not the only one." I must have missed that Calvin and Hobbes strip, although I read it most days. And I have never heard of anyone using peanut butter like this. While most commenters also had never heard of such a thing, a few said they always tried to eat as much peanut butter as possible without disturbing the smooth surface on top. Megamanfre does the same thing a slightly different way. He's not the only one.

Have you ever done this? Have you even heard of it? Will you start doing it now because of this post?

  1. Crunchy pb is the way I roll. Its top is always unsmooth.

  2. Not peanut butter, but my family refuses to touch the margarine on the sides of the container, they only dig in to the middle. I have no idea why.

  3. Although I never ate enough peanut butter to find that ritual appealing, I do *get* it. When I use Vaseline, of all things, I like the top to be smooth, dig in at an edge, and not just throw 2-3 fingers deep into the perfect smoothness of the properly set Vaseline petroleum jelly. Of course, everyone who uses my house, except me, has no appreciation for a smooth-top jar of dry-foot relief, so my smooth top only lasts as long as I'm the only one to use it. Still, until then, I dig in from one corner....

  5. I thought this technique only applied to cartons of Neopolitan ice cream -- I liked to eat the strawberry layer first, LOL!

  6. I never thought of it before, but Calvin is on the spectrum. Go, Calvin!
