That means it's farmed salmon raised in British Columbia, I think. Not wild.

But British Columbia is nowhere near the Atlantic...

Lol, Not being from where you are, I had to look up where British Columbia is .... belatedly remembering my daughter in law is from there.
A long way from the Atlantic, to be sure.
However Atlantic salmon were introduced to the north Pacific sometime ago, so, they are indeed Atlantic salmon, from the Pacific, and just off the coast of British Columbia, no doubt.

Yes, Atlantic salmon is almost a different breed of salmon.

Well that explains that! I've learned something new today.

There are strict laws out here in the Pacific Northwest about letting Atlantic salmon escape from farming pens because they spawn with wild Pacific salmon and change the genetics of the babies, which has bad consequences for the breed and results in fines and other consequences.

Lilylou ... they fine the BABIES ?

Yes, I think Lilylou is right that Atlantic salmon from BC must be farmed salmon. There's a concerted effort to keep them from going feral and damaging native Pacific salmon habitat.
