The question I have is, "how did the guy get into the phone to be able to tuck the C-note in there?"

He just took the back off. You have to have access there to change the SIM card or the battery.

The SIM card is user-accessible without removing the back.  It is inserted into the phone via a tray with attached cover plate that is accessible from the lower right-hand side of the frame — at least on most current iPhones.  And ever since the iPhone was introduced it was not designed for the end user to be able to easily replace the battery (unlike my old Samsung Galaxy S4 or Alcatel Verso), which means one must either force the back open (damaging the phone) or have specialized tools, a delicate touch, and patience to be able to remove the back and battery and replace it without ruining things.  And even then you will likely (1) compromise the Apple warranty and (2) negate the IP67 "waterproof" rating.

I've never had an iPhone, but my kids take theirs apart easily. They buy used phones, so there's never any warranty anyway.
