Osmond Does Bowie

The 1970s were a time when anyone and everyone had a musical variety show on TV, and the stars would cover whatever song was popular at the time, no matter where it came from. That's how we ended up with such oddities as Donny Osmond singing the David Bowie song "Fame" on prime-time TV in 1976. Even more cringeworthy is the Donnie and Marie cover of "Reelin' in the Years." There is something to be said for the way that covers used to proliferate, though. Donnie's version is faithful and competent enough to make me think--Yep. That's a great song. Which is all a cover is trying to do.

Bobby and Sissy on Lawrence Welk covering "One Toke Over The Line" is an old favorite
