Looking into the Future

This map shows the number of people who have no health insurance by county. The darker the purple, the higher percentage of people with no insurance. Read more about the map at the New York Times.

Kentucky has elected Republican Matt Bevin as the new governor. A year from now, this map will be different, and Kentucky will be just as purple as the red states that rejected federal money to expand Medicaid to those who don’t make enough money to use KyKinect. Oh, yeah, and Kinect will be gone, too. Bevin campaigned on that plank.

You have to wonder how many of the folks whose insurance was at stake voted yesterday. And how many of them voted against their own interests.

I feel bad for those who will lose their insurance. Why is t so many people vote against their own interests? I'll never forget an early Tea Party protester screaming, "Keep government out of my Medicare!" How do they get sold a bill of goods? Are there really that many truly stupid people (mostly) in the South?
