I’m sure any woman who got one of these as a present today would wrap it around the old man’s head!
It’s also interesting to see that it only goes up to 250lbs – no use whatsoever to the several million Americans who weigh more than that.

Well, there you go ... I thought that it was useless because no people ever weigh 250kgs, same bad as car speed-o-meters that show 250kilometres per hour when the car itself could ever only do 170kph.

But to 'embrace' your old fashioned, used by only the USA, Liberia and Myanmar, imperial measurements that are based on a British king's body parts for a bit ... £250 is about 113 kilograms and each of my 4 brothers, and myself, weigh more than that, so peers such as Piers (M)M are right, it is seemingly useless for normal sized people.

My PCP used to have one of these because he caters mainly to Asian patients. I would peg it out every time and they finally got an electronic version that goes to 500 pounds. Ironically, now their old scale would work for me.

That's because it's a rerun. Many of my source websites went out of business over the years.

That brings back memories--my parents had that exact scale.
