Finding Freedom

Watch Sue Austin fly through the water in her wheelchair. Austin is a multimedia, performance, and installation artist who confined to a wheelchair, but as you can see, "confined" does not seem like the proper word. This video, Finding Freedom, is the first part of a art piece called Creating the Spectacle! which is both online video and performed live at pools. Read more about it at the project website. She's as "confined" to her wheelchair as I am to my shoes when I go outside on gravel. A very wrong descriptive. Her wheelchair is just an appliance that she uses. Much like when you wear a jacket on a frigid day.

Agreed, I don't get the point of the wheels and fins together. If the engineer who created the add-ons that turn this into a aguaplane, why didn't they just make a aquaplane that someone with a disability could drive. Silly.

Anyway, the "disabilities ain't holdin' me back" spirit of this video reminded me of the bungee jumping girl video that was popular a few months back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh74zmULXbw
