Goodbye to Love

By The Carpenters. Back in 1972, I used to listen to this song just waiting for the guitar riff in the last minute or so, but familiarity made me love the whole thing.

You know if Karen Carpinter and Mamma Cass had shared that sandwich, they would both be alive today.

I had forgotten about that fuzz box guitar solo on this song.

Did you know that this distorted sound effect was discovered by accident in the 50's and 60's by musicians who had faulty amps and pre-amps. An electronic fault would cause a problem, and they liked sound it made better that was it was engineered to make. It could be caused by something as simple as a loose vacuum tube.

Eventually, some of the smarter performers figured out how to make equipment to replicate the fault.
